Throwback Thursday! Do You Remember Sci-Fi Movies That Predicted The Future?

Throwback Thursday posts are a time to share nostalgia, a chance to look back on the past, and maybe nudge your memory, courtesy of Do You Remember. We post every Thursday and as often as possible, include prizes, contests or giveaways.

Do You Remember Sci-Fi Movies that Predicted the Future? We're heading Back to the Future for this one.

We want to know  - What is your favorite "Sci-fi" movie or tv show? (past or present - you can say why if you want to) and What is your favorite gadget of today or the one you wish you had? (Can be anything.)

We love Sci Fi because it gives us a bit of escapism from the real world - or at at least, it used to....

A little Sci-Fi with the gadgets of today. Prizes include (in no particular order):
Nintendo WIIU
Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7" OR Fire HD 6 Kids Edition
KitchenAid 5 quart Artisan Stand Mixer - Includes flat beater, dough hook, wire whip, variety of colors to select, 10 speeds and stainless steel bowl

Winners will be chosen on Saturday, July 25th after 12 noon EST.
Post here and/or email us at seashoresisters@comcast.net.

Good luck and just have fun!

Winners announced!

First Place (Leslie Andersen) I used to love Chiller Theatre. I think it went on around midnight on Saturdays. The hand reaching up really scared you. I think the best movie was "The Blob". I am not sure if the scene was in The Blob but a woman turned into a giant and was calling for her husband...."Harry...Harry"...those were the days of "safe scary movies". My favorite gadget of today is my new iPhone. I am able to be "in touch" with family and friends and brings the world closer to me. I just got it a couple of months ago and I don't know why I waited so long. My old Samsung phone suited my needs and I didn't want to spend money unnecessarily but an unfortunate accident changed that and I had to get a new phone of which I am thrilled about. I don't know what I did without it.

Second Place (Quinn Burton) Favorite scifi movie is Flash Gordon and I loved the part where he sticks his hand in the stump and fakes getting bit and favorite gadget is a TV because it keeps me in touch with everything that is going on around the world from sitting in the comfort of my house on the couch and one day you can be at an NFL football game and the next part of a reality TV show and then learn how to build a deck all in one week or one day or one hour!

Third Place (Michele Colavolpe Antisdel) Mine would be an Indy film that came out this year called "Parallels". A group of people would go into this weird building and each time they came out they'd be in a different dimension. I want that building so I could visit other dimensions but I would also need a light saber to beat off all the nasties.

Fourth Place (Kelly Burton) ET is my favorite movie. I loved it as a kid and as an adult and both my kids love to watch it too, so that is always a good movie in my book. And my favorite gadget is my iphone. Who would have thought that we could carry a camera, phone, internet and games in our pocket. It has completely changed the way we live (maybe not for the better) but it is something that I cannot live without!!!

Fifth Place (Linda Peters Rink) I loved "The Twilight Zone"--can we call that science fiction? I still watch reruns via the Twilight Zone Marathons. And what would I give for a machine that would make me the most delicious meals --without calories!!!

Sixth Place (Lisa Brophy) Lost in Space!! Danger Will Robinson. Danger!! Loved watching the robot freak out with the arms. We thought that was so amazing. They must laugh now with all the movie and tv technology. Looked like a garbage can with dryer vent silver parts for arms. Haha.

My favorite technology is my phone. A blessing and a curse, but I would be "lost in space" without it!!

Seventh Place (Ann Post Pastore) Cocoon is my favorite sci fi movie. The aliens are like normal people and you want them around. Plus I love that they take the old folks with them for a forever life of happiness! I would definitely want the replicator from Star Trek! Anything you want on demand. Need a Pyrex dish, make it! Need milk, make it! It would be awesome!

Eighth Place (Allison Nerone) My son and I are big fans of the Back to the Future trilogy and of course who wouldn't want a time machine!!!

Ninth Place (Heidi Nelson) Being a time traveling fanatic, I'm in love with Back To The Future! I'm sure I've seen it over 20 times! I love it's foreshadowing and my favorite gadget would have to be the ability to drive a DeLorean into the past, or future, that would be fabulous… (But with the "Mr. fusion" version)

Congratulations!

Meet Danielle Gervais and Help Her Realize Her Dream!

Meet Danielle Gervais and Help Her Realize Her Dream

Click below to see Danielle's audition shared on YouTube:

Danielle's Musical Theatre Audition Video for California State

From Danielle:
I need your support to help me stay in school to achieve my dream to perform on broadway! My name is Danielle and I am currently a Junior at California State University Chico studying Musical Theatre. I came to the United States from Canada when I was 18, leaving my mother in Connecticut and friends and family in Canada.

I came to California to pursue my dream of being a performer on Broadway and even had to turn down my dream school, because of my lack of finances. I had worked for two years in high school, saving $10,000 to come to University. My parents are recently divorced and my mother doesn't have the means to help me. My father, though financially capable, does not support my dreams to be a performer and we have little contact. I love being at Chico State and I have been working my hardest to achieve a 3.8 GPA. I have been on the Dean's list every semester I have been there, but I do not qualify for most scholarships offered. I have applied for all of the scholarships offered by the school and private, but have received none. I am paying out of state tuition and have been for the past two years. I am over $50,000 in student loans and I am only half way through my education.

I was barely scraping by for the first year and as soon as I became eligible, I got a minimum wage job. I had to quit this job in February after I was cast in two shows at CSU Chico and they refused to work around my schedule. At that point, I decided I would rather save every penny and sacrifice food at times than the alternative, not performing. I was rejected for in state tuition this year for minor details and will have to come up with $18,000 for the next academic year. My FAFSA is barely going to cover a quarter of these costs, which doesn't include my rent or living expenses. I am having a difficult time finding a job, because I am living in a small town, where even minimum wage jobs are highly competitive.

All I want is to be able to continue my education at Chico State, but money is getting in the way of my dreams. When I do receive my degree, my next goal is to receive my teacher's license and while auditioning for shows, I want to help other children to realize their potential love for the arts. I just need your help to get there.

I promise this is not a cause you will regret donating to and I vow to one day, pay it forward. Please help me make my dreams come true.

To help with Danielle's chance at an education and to help this amazing and talented young woman realize her dream, if you can, please donate here by clicking on this link: Danielle's GoFundMe

Meet Lani Lazzari from Simple Sugars

Simple Sugars began in December of 2005, when my mom decided that we would have a homemade Christmas and insisted that my brothers and I make the holiday gifts that we wanted to give to family and friends.

Since I was a baby I have had very sensitive skin and have been prone to eczema breakouts. I have never been able to use a commercially produced product without experiencing skin irritation or a major rash. So, I decided to make an all-natural product that would be safe for very sensitive skin like mine, would be fun to use and smell great too. I did lots of research, came up with my formulation, gave my scrubs out to family and friends, all of whom clamored for more and Simple Sugars was born!

Simple Sugars has grown a lot since then and so has my passion for all-natural skin care. I like to tell people, “If you wouldn't eat it, then you probably have no business putting it on your skin!”

In March of 2013, I appeared on ABC's hit show "Shark Tank" and got an investment from billionaire Mark Cuban. Since then Simple Sugars has been growing extremely quickly. We sell internationally online and in over 700 retail locations and employ a team of 22 people. All of our products are still handmade at our production facility in Pittsburgh, PA.

My mission is simple (no pun intended!):

To make the best all-natural, scrubs out of the highest quality ingredients.
To provide my customers with the best service available.
To renew, reuse and recycle because we only have one Earth.
And above all: To keep things simple! I hope that you enjoy my products.

Stay Smooth! - Lani

What would you be doing if not Simple Sugars?

If I didn't own Simple Sugar Scrubs I would be a: Professional foodie Go-to

Coffee order?

Grande nonfat iced caramel macchiato

Favorite holiday?

Christmas, because if I make it to the 25th then I’ve survived all of the insanity of the holiday season leading up to it!

If you could have lunch with any woman, who would it be and what would you order?

I would have lunch with Hillary Clinton, and I would order grilled cheese, because you can never go wrong with a grilled cheese.

My perfect day off would be spent:

Relaxing! I would probably start off with a massage, spend some time reading, and then bake/cook something really delicious.

Find Lani and Simple Sugars on Facebook: Simple Sugars Facebook, on her website: Simple Sugars and watch her success story on Shark Tank: Simple Sugars Shark Tank

Throwback Thursday! Do You Remember Jiffy Pop?

Throwback Thursday posts are a time to share nostalgia, a chance to look back on the past, and maybe nudge your memory, courtesy of Do You Remember. We post every Thursday and as often as possible, include prizes, contests or giveaways.

This Thursday's post includes a chance to win Jiffy Pop!  Do You Remember Jiffy Pop? We're not stopping there though! To go along with the Jiffy Pop Popcorn, we're including popcorn boxes, movie theater candy, and you're going to the movies! Winner's choice of one $25.00 gift card for AMC theaters, Fandango, Regal Cinemas, or to Amazon.com in case you want to buy a movie to watch at home.

To enter, tell us your favorite movie treat or your favorite movie or the movie you most want to see next. Just post here and email us at seashoresisters@comcast.net. In the event of multiple entries, we will randomly draw the winner. One winner!

Winner to be announced on Saturday, May 23rd after 12 noon EST. Shipping to U.S. only.

I miss the aluminum tray Jiffy Pop. I miss the ferocity by which we had to shake the tray over the flame or burner to prevent it from burning (which it usually did despite our best efforts). I miss watching the thin, flattened foil twist and expand when the corn began to pop inside, until it became a shiny silver balloon before being poked to release an explosion of smell and a foot-tall mountain of steaming hot, crunchy-good yellowness, which shortly after being sprinkled with generous amounts of salt and sometimes butter, was gone within minutes.

Hope you enter and have fun!

Tracy, Jade and Kelly won!
Congratulations!

Throwback Thursday! Do You Remember Lunch Boxes?

Throwback Thursday posts are a time to share nostalgia, a chance to look back on the past, and maybe nudge your memory, courtesy of Do You Remember. We will post every Thursday, and as often as possible, we will include a prize, contest or giveaway.

This Thursday's post includes a chance to win lunch boxes!  Do You Remember Lunch Boxes? While we can't offer true vintage lunch boxes due to the prices, and even the condition they are in, we will be offering "new old vintage" aka replicas and new lunch boxes. We have included pictures below of the lunch boxes available.

To enter, share a favorite quote from the movie, tv series or any character on the lunch boxes you want most by posting here. Please also email us at seashoresisters@comcast.net  because if you win, we'll need to contact you. In the event of multiple entries for the same lunch boxes, we will randomly draw winners.

Winners to be announced on Saturday, May 16th after 12 noon EST. Shipping to U.S. only.

I remember the lunch boxes from elementary school. I liked Snoopy and Barbie lunchboxes, and they came with thermoses. (These don't.) My lunch box usually included a PB&J sandwich back then, and I often managed to trade for someone's tuna sandwich. You'd be surprised how many would trade their tuna fish for a PB&J! The Yodels however, were all mine! I'd only share these with my best friends.

Hope you enter and have fun!

Winners of lunch boxes include Michele for the Twilight Zone lunch box, "You are about to enter another dimension. A dimension not only of sight and sound, but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land of imagination. Next stop, the Twilight Zone" and Michaela for the Darth Vadar Lunch Box "Luke, I am your father" and the Elsa Lunch box "The cold never bothered me anyways." Congratulations!!

The rest will be donated or shared. Thanks for entering!
